Overview

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Generator Operator to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the organization’s power generation systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining generators to guarantee an uninterrupted power supply. This role requires technical competence, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and preventive maintenance standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor generators during power outages or as required by facility operations.

• Track generator performance, including fuel levels, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery condition.

• Perform routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and battery checks.

• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues promptly, escalating major faults to the maintenance team.

• Coordinate with technicians and service providers for repairs and periodic servicing.

• Maintain a clean and safe environment around generator areas in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

• Record generator running hours, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities accurately.

• Prepare daily or weekly operational reports and maintain up-to-date maintenance logs.

• Implement fire prevention and emergency shutdown procedures where necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical Certificate, Trade Test, or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a related field).

• Minimum of 2–4 years experience in generator operation and maintenance (diesel/petrol).

• Strong understanding of generator systems, including control panels, fuel supply, and electrical connections.

• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical and electrical faults.

• Familiarity with safety standards, emergency procedures, and fire prevention practices.

• Proven experience maintaining accurate operational and maintenance records.
